One day a crow was sitting on a tree. He saw an eagle swoop down from the sky and carry away a lamb. The crow became very envious and wanted to do the same. He thought that he was as strong and clever as the eagle. Without thinking of his own strength, he flew down and sat on the back of a big sheep. He tried to lift it with his claws, but it was far too heavy for him. Worse still, his claws got entangled in the thick wool, and he could not fly away. The sheep began to run in panic, and the crow flapped his wings helplessly. A shepherd noticed the scene and ran towards them. He caught the crow easily and clipped his wings. Then he took him home as a toy for his children. The crow regretted his foolishness, but it was too late.
Moral: Blind imitation and vain ambition bring ruin.
An Ambitious Crow and His Sad End Completing Story HSC
One day a crow was sitting on a tree. He saw an eagle swoop down from the sky and carry away a lamb. The crow became very envious and wanted to do the same. Blinded by vanity, he overestimated his own strength and resolved to imitate the mighty bird. He descended upon the back of a large sheep and dug his claws into its fleece. However, he could neither lift the animal nor pull his claws free, for they were hopelessly entangled in the wool. The terrified sheep bolted across the field while the crow struggled in vain. A shepherd, attracted by the commotion, seized the helpless bird without any difficulty. He clipped the crow’s wings and handed him over to his children as a plaything. Too late, the crow realised the folly of his ambition and repented bitterly.
Moral: Over-ambition without ability leads to a sad end.
